Co-op was fun too, but it just didn't have the sneakiness from the previous games that fans wanted. As an action, pseudo-stealth cover based shooter, it was fine. Booorriiiiing!Ĭonviction was a far cry from the previous games, and one of the lead producers on the game was quoted as saying that he hated the slow methodical pacing of the previous games. It was decent, but ultimately forgettable.ĭouble Agent for the 360 was worse than the original Xbox version, the main reason being half of the game takes place in 1 level. Didn't add enough new to the game and the levels weren't nearly as interesting this time around.
Great levels, great music, great dialog, multiplayer, 8 or so co-op levels that are very sizable and built specifically for co-op.ĭouble Agent for Xbox was more of the same. Chaos Theory is the pinnacle of the SC franchise. Hopefully, the developers bring back the original setting and heightened present for a future installment.I'd probably rate the first 3 games higher than anything recent. It seems like the original vision was very rich and creative and a game-world that players can immerse themselves into.
In hindsight, the criticisms of the original world don't make sense. Eventually, this original setting is discontinued, and the developers reworked Splinter Cell into a more contemporary and grounded stealth-driven shooter. This sounds like a really cool concept that gamers would love, right? Wrong.Ĭriticisms claimed that the overall concept was beyond its time and that it does not have enough spirit. This meant that some of the technology in the game's version of 2004 was either way too advanced or simply impossible, while the global politics of this alternate history were a lot different compared to what really happened. Splinter Cell's plot originally takes place in the future with more of a retro scene, since the story was set just a few years after the first game was released in 2002.
